InsurancesafeNZ provides three different travel insurance policy categories: Studentsafe, Workersafe and Explorersafe. This means that if you’re travelling to New Zealand, travelling within New Zealand or temporarily leaving New Zealand, we have something to offer you. Use the Policy Finder to narrow your policy search and get a quote. Our website is also packed with great information on how to keep safe, how to make the most of your time abroad and how to understand your travel insurance policy better. If you need further assistance contact one of our friendly staff on our toll-free number 0800 486 004 (within NZ) or +64 9 488 1638 (outside of NZ).
We all want the best for our loved ones, so when it comes to your spouse and children, there is an option to add them to your Studentsafe Inbound University Policy or Inbound Learners Policy. While publicly funded health services are available in New Zealand, international students and their dependents often do not meet the eligibility criteria.
If you would like your spouse or child to be covered under your policy, you need to apply for cover for them by completing a Family Application Form and pay the relevant premium if your application is accepted.
If you have recently given birth and would like for your baby to be covered under your policy, they may be added to your policy after they have been born. Your baby will not be covered under your policy until you have completed the Family Application Form and paid the additional premium.
Read your Policy Wording on insurancesafenz.com. Terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply.
Which family members can be added to my policy?
You may apply to add your spouse and your financially dependent children up to 18 years of age who remain in your full custody and control. Spouse means your husband, wife, de-facto partner or civil union partner. Other family members, such as parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles are not included.
How do I add family members to my policy?
You may add family members to your policy at the start of your course by completing a Family Application Form, providing this to your University or Technical Institute’s International Student Office and paying the additional Family cover premium.
Can I add my baby to my policy during pregnancy?
You may apply to add your baby to your policy once they have been born and after the start date of study as advised by your educational provider.
What will the cover start and end dates be for my family?
Your family’s cover will have the same start and end dates as your policy. It is important that you apply for your family’s cover at the start date of study as advised by your educational provider, as Family members cover cannot be added mid-term.
If you have missed to apply for family cover at the start of your policy, our Explorersafe Policy is available for purchase at any time.
