The best ways to escape the Kiwi Winter

Escape the Kiwi winter – discovering the Pacific and Australia

Unless you’re really into skiing, winter in New Zealand isn’t really the most exciting time of year. It’s not cold enough for there to be pretty snow falling in the cities, but it’s still cold enough that you don’t want to spend time outside unless you have to. Instead of snow, we mostly get rain and wind. It’s certainly not terrible – but it does give you a good excuse to go somewhere sunny if you have the time and budge

Studentsafe Outbound

Studying abroad is an opportunity not to be missed. It looks great on your resume and you can brush up on your foreign language skills while you're there. But every now and again things don’t go to plan so it’s important to make sure that you are well covered. The Studentsafe Outbound policy provides travel insurance cover to people who will be studying overseas.

Policy Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for the Studentsafe Outbound Policy if you;

  • Are under the age of 60, hold a current New Zealand student visa, will be leaving New Zealand temporarily for study purposes as approved by a New Zealand education provider and will return to New Zealand to continue studying.
  • Are a New Zealand resident or citizen under the age of 60, will be leaving New Zealand to study and will return to New Zealand post-study.

You can include cover for accompanying dependants and family under this policy. Dependant children under 18 years of age can be covered for no additional premium but will share the insured person’s policy benefit limits.

Get Quote

You can get a quote and buy your policy online or contact us on our toll-free number 0800 486 004 (within NZ).

Record of cover

You will be sent a Policy Certificate electronically. This will be emailed to you as soon as you have confirmed your policy and paid the premium. The Policy Certificate will include specific information about your policy including your period of cover. We recommend that you store this in a safe place.

Policy Claims Excess

The Studentsafe Outbound policy includes a minimum excess of $100 for each and every event giving rise to a claim. Terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply. Please refer to the Policy Wording for detailed terms of cover.

Pre-existing medical conditions

Some pre-existing medical conditions are automatically covered under this policy. Please review the Policy Wording to determine if your condition is automatically covered. If your medical condition is not automatically covered, you are able to complete a medical assessment online. You will be charged an additional premium for this cover, if approved. If the cover for the condition is declined, then no cover is provided for pre-existing medical conditions under the policy. You have the choice to “Opt Out’ of this additional cover, however, please note this means no claim can be made for losses relating to any pre-existing medical condition.

Specified High Value Items

For any baggage items that are worth more than the policy item limit, you can extend the cover and specify the item on your policy. For portable computer equipment the item limit is $2,500 and for all other items the limit is $1,500. An additional premium will be charged to specify an item and you should insure it for the indemnity or current value of the item. These items can be specified when purchasing your policy online. Please note a limit of $10,000 per item and $20,000 for all specified high value items applies.
